Comrades Club has Club Certificate Suspended

The Club Certificate held by the Comrades Club in the Oxford Road was suspended for a period of three months by the Licensing Sub Committee of Reading Borough Council that sat on Friday.

Inspector Keith Stacey from Thames Valley Police presented the case that the members club was poorly run and was in breach of their club certificate as they had served members of the public who were neither members, nor guests of members. The club had also failed a test purchase 'sting' carried out by Trading Standards back in November where a fifteen year old was sold alcohol.

The situation was further excabeated by a second offence to serving a fifteen year old on a test purchase exercise last Saturday. Tim Charles of Field Seymour Parkes was representing, and told the Sub Committee that his Clients had given an undertaking to attend a training course in licensing law.

The suspension will not take affect immediately and may be the subject of an appeal.
